Ronald Lee Pierce, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and professor, passed away on November 2, 2026, at the age of 87. A gifted speaker with a love of learning and a deep commitment to his faith, Ron devoted his life to his family, his students, and those he served.
Born on January 8, 1939, in El Paso, Texas, to Merlin Done and Myrle Stillman Pierce, Ron grew up in a home filled with love and laughter. In 1952, his family welcomed his sister, Jeannine, whom he loved dearly.
Ron’s high school years were filled with activities including writing and choir. Music continued to play an important role during his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina. As a member of “Los Mormones,” he traveled and shared the gospel through song, including performances on radio and television.
After returning home, Ron attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a Masters Degree in accounting. On June 15, 1964, he married Lorraine Schwendiman. Together, they built a home centered on faith, love, and family.
Their early married years took them to Boise, Idaho, and Logan, Utah, where they welcomed their first three children- Ron, Julene, and Kristin. In 1972, Ron and Lorraine moved to Claremont, California, where their family grew with the births of Lee and Tom. In 1987, Shanti became a cherished part of their lives. Claremont became a lasting home, filled with enduring friendships, opportunities to serve, and treasured family memories.
As a professor of accounting and a certified public accountant, Ron worked diligently to provide for his family and help his students succeed. He received several awards for his teaching. His days often began before dawn and ended late at night as he balanced teaching, professional responsibilities, and church service.
Throughout his life, Ron generously gave his time to others. His church callings included service as a Scoutmaster, bishopric member, high councilor, bishop, Spanish branch president, and area authority auditor. His faith was reflected not only in his words, but also in his steady willingness to work, provide, teach, and serve.
Among Ron’s greatest joys was being a grandfather and welcoming each new generation of his family. He loved spending time at his ranch in Utah, driving the tractor, and fishing. He also enjoyed reading and woodworking.
Ron leaves a legacy of faith, perseverance, service, and love. His family takes comfort in their faith that the bonds they share continue beyond this life. They will carry his love, his teachings, and his example with them always.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine; his children, Ronald M. Pierce (Crissan), Julene Brooks (Brian), Kristin Udall (David), Shanti Anderson (Ken), Lee A, Pierce (Monika), and L. Tom Pierce (Rachel); 26 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin Done and Myrle Stillman Pierce, and his sister, Jeannine.
Funeral services will be held on November 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Claremont Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 728 E. Baseline Rd., Claremont, CA 91711. A viewing will be held at the chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., immediately preceding the service. Graveside services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 20, 2026.
