Barbara lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a short time until moving with family to Los Angeles, California in 1956. As a young girl, she enjoyed school, needlework, backpacking and hiking with friends and time spent in nature’s beauty. Barbara graduated from Pomona High School in 1971, attended Mt. San Antonio College and earned her Baccalaureate degree in Finance from California State University, Fullerton. She met the love of her life, David Spelbring, on the Park and Ride commuter bus traveling to and from Pomona to Los Angeles.
Barbara and Dave married on April 4, 1981 and made their home first in Monterey Park and then permanently nesting in La Crescenta, CA. Together, they enjoyed travelling with friends and family, attending community theatre, dining and dancing, camping and touring in National Parks. Barbara was meticulous in every way, including her home décor, cooking, personal appearance, mementos and friendships.
After retirement, she enjoyed watching professional tennis, worked part time in tax preparation and volunteered at the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society until her Alzheimer’s diagnosis changed her life course. She passed away November 4, 2026 from complications due to Alzheimer’s. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Park Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association .
